The trekking route from the Pian degli Ontani Biogenetic Reserve to the Torre del Fattucchio is an easy and panoramic excursion, suitable for all levels of experience. The trail winds through the Pian degli Ontani Biogenetic Reserve, a protected area that is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. Along the way, you can admire beech, fir and chestnut forests, as well as meadows and pastures.<\/p>\n

How to get:<\/p>\n

By car: from Pistoia, take the SS12 towards Abetone. After about 30 km, turn right for Pian degli Ontani.<\/p>\n

By train: the closest train station is Abetone. From there, you can take a bus or taxi to Pian degli Ontani.<\/p>\n

The excursion starts from the Pian degli Ontani Biogenetic Reserve. The starting point is easily reachable from the town of Pian degli Ontani.<\/p>\n

The path starts uphill, through a beech forest. After about 1.5 km, you reach a crossroads. The path on the right leads to the Torre del Fattucchio, while the path on the left leads to the Suspension Bridge.<\/p>\n

To reach the Torre del Fattucchio, you must follow the path on the right. The path continues uphill, through a fir forest. After about 2 km, you reach the Torre del Fattucchio. The Torre del Fattucchio is a medieval watchtower, which offers a splendid panoramic view of the Serchio valley. From the Torre del Fattucchio, you can go back along the outward path, or continue towards the Suspension Bridge. The Suspended Bridge is a pedestrian bridge suspended over the Sestaiola stream. The bridge is approximately 100 meters long and offers a spectacular view of the stream and the surrounding nature. To reach the Suspension Bridge, you must follow the left path at the fork. The trail is short and flat. After crossing the Suspension Bridge, you can go back along the outward path, or continue towards Pian degli Ontani. To return to Pian degli Ontani, you can follow the outward path. The route is the same as the outward journey.<\/p>\n

We recommend wearing comfortable trekking shoes suitable for the terrain.
